April is 9-1-1 education month, and the second week of April is celebrated nationwide as the Public Safety Communicators Week. As you may have guessed by now, today we’ll be talking about 9-1-1 dispatchers and other public safety communication staff. Like all other departments in the public safety and law enforcement fields, dispatchers could use some better organization and streamlining of the numerous tasks, including one of the most important ones—employee training. As a dispatcher, you are not new to technology, but do you take full advantage of it? Allow us to show you how our employee training software can make your job as a Dispatch Training Officer much easier.
Maintain Training Records
Could you say that all of your training records are organized in one place and easily accessible? If not, then you are missing out. Modern public safety software like MdE’s performance evaluations module allows you to enter journal entries on your computer with enough room to provide as many details as necessary about a specific incident. You can even attach photos, documents and other files directly to your journal entry. You get the full picture all in one place—no more searching for separate files to piece together. And, best of all, it’s all digital, so it will save you a lot of “paperwork.”
Make it Easier to Leave Feedback
Public safety requires teamwork between law enforcement, dispatch, medical and other units. Therefore, as a dispatch training officer you likely won’t be the only person evaluating and reporting on your trainees. For example, a Patrol Captain may provide performance feedback on a dispatcher based on a recent interaction. Instead of reaching out to you as a supervisor, they can simply log into the performance evaluation system and add a comment to the trainee’s file. This way everything is documented, time-stamped, and easy to find.
Achieve Uniformity Among Reports
If your dispatch department requires training officers to submit daily observation reports, things can get chaotic. The same goes for performance evaluations. One of your responsibilities as a dispatch training officer is likely to instruct other senior dispatchers on how to properly write evaluations. Wouldn’t it be easier if they had a single format all of them could follow? This can be achieved with our A.D.O.R.E. module that essentially automates daily observation reports and evaluations. It’s intuitive and paperless, and it makes everyone’s job faster and more efficient!
Measure Class Performance
As a part of the in-service training, your dispatch trainees probably have to attend and pass several classes, such as basic telecommunications, domestic violence, first aid and CPR, etc. Keeping track of everyone’s attendance, performance, and the overall class standing can be difficult with just pen and paper. Take advantage of software like our CLASS module to help you keep all class data in one place and even automatically calculate the pass/fail status. A big bonus is that you can update records and otherwise manipulate data for all class participants at once, instead of updating each record one person at a time. This is a big time saver as well as a way to minimize data entry errors.
